On the morning of 31 December 2025, Professor Wu Wei from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna visited our institute for academic exchange, delivering an on-site lecture to undergraduate students of the Engineering Innovation Class within the 2024 International Programme. Academician Chen Xiangsheng, Dean of the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering and Director of the Future Underground City Research Institute at Shenzhen University, received the visiting scholar. The exchange session was chaired by Professor Fei Jianbo, with attendance by Professor Su Dong, Deputy Director of the Research Institute, alongside relevant faculty members and postdoctoral researchers.

The meeting commenced with Academician Chen Xiangsheng extending a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to Professor Wu Wei for his attendance. He addressed the students of the International Engineering Innovation Programme with heartfelt expectations, urging them to strive to become the very best versions of themselves.

Professor Wu Wei delivered an academic lecture entitled "Shear Band: Earth Pressure Theory from Coulomb to Rankine" to students of the International Engineering Innovation Class and young researchers. The presentation, accessible yet profound, explored the formation mechanisms of shear bands in soil mechanics. It focused on landmark breakthroughs in soil mechanics theory, employing the Mohr-Coulomb criterion and limit analysis methods to provide students with an internationally oriented popular science education.

At the exchange meeting, Professor Wu Wei engaged in in-depth discussions with attending faculty and students on cutting-edge topics including geotechnical mechanisms, mathematical modelling, algorithmic research, and practical engineering applications. Professor Fei Jianbo also delivered a presentation entitled Particle Dynamics Approach to Geotechnical Catastrophes. Professor Jin Yinfu introduced the Smart Marine Engineering Centre, which he leads.
