Good News | Research Led by Academician Xiangsheng CHEN Wins 2025 Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Award – Transportation Science and Technology Award

Recently, the Beijing Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Education Foundation held the 35th Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Award Ceremony in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. The research achievement titled "Key Technologies for Intelligent Construction of Close-Fit, Twin Tunnel Pipe Jacking for Subway Stations in Sensitive Environments", led by Academician Xiangsheng CHEN (Dean of our Institute), has won the 2025 Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Award – Transportation Science and Technology Award. Shenzhen University is the leading contributor to this achievement, which was jointly completed by Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd., Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Jintu Geotechnical Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd., China Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd., China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd., and China Railway No.10 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. The work has received strong support from the Guangdong Provincial Key Research and Development Project on "Modern Engineering Technology", particularly the key special project "Key Technologies for Mined Subway Stations in Bustling Urban Districts".

Based on the Shajing Guxu Station of Shenzhen Metro Line 12, this achievement has pioneered the world's first "close-fit, twin tunnel pipe jacking technology for subway station construction". The team successfully developed the world's largest modular rectangular pipe jacking machine, the Dayu Tunneler. They systematically established a comprehensive technical framework covering equipment development, design methods, construction processes, and intelligent control, overcoming critical bottlenecks such as high-precision assembly of super-large segments and deformation control during close-fit construction.

This award signifies that the major innovations of this world-first technology in the field of intelligent and green construction have been highly recognized within the industry. As a core achievement of the "Key Technologies for Mined Subway Stations in Bustling Urban Districts" project, it has broken through the constraints of underground space development in sensitive urban environments, filled the gap in mechanized mined subway station construction in China, and provided a revolutionary solution for the safe, efficient, and green development of urban underground space in China, thereby effectively promoting technological progress in the transportation industry.
