The Hong Kong Police Force's Good Citizen Award Ceremony 2024 is set to take place on February 23, honoring 80 citizens for their assistance in preventing and solving crimes, apprehending offenders, and saving lives. Among the recipients are He Jinmiao and Wen Jianbin, undergraduate students from the class of 2021 at our university, along with their roommate Wang Haolin. They are the first mainland Chinese university students to receive the Hong Kong "Good Citizen Award" in nearly two decades.

In January 2024, during a trip to Hong Kong, He Jinmiao, Wen Jianbin, and Wang Haolin noticed a woman calling for help after falling into the water near the Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai. Displaying remarkable composure, the trio quickly coordinated their efforts. He Jinmiao immediately threw a lifebuoy and called the police, while Wen Jianbin and Wang Haolin sought assistance from passersby. Rescue personnel soon arrived at the scene, successfully retrieving the woman and rushing her to the hospital, ultimately saving her life.

Recently, the three students were interviewed by multiple media outlets in Hong Kong, where they shared their thoughts on receiving the award:

"We are deeply gratified and overjoyed that the woman was successfully rescued. We are also thankful for the swift response of the police and the help from other bystanders. It was the collective effort of everyone involved that saved a precious life."

"Our university regularly hosts lectures and activities on emergency response, which equipped us with the knowledge to make the right decisions in a critical moment."

"We are immensely grateful to our university and the Hong Kong police for recognizing and honoring our actions. We never expected to receive such a prestigious award. It not only validates our decisions and actions at the time but also encourages everyone to lend a helping hand to those in need."
