Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Tencent officially signed an agreement, with Tencent donating 500 million RMB to the NSFC to fund the Youth Student Basic Research Project (Doctoral Student Program). This initiative aims to support basic research, with a particular focus on female researchers, those from western regions, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In the 2024 list of approved candidates for the NSFC Youth Student Basic Research Project (Doctoral Student Program), three doctoral students from our institute—Zhou Xuemin, Zhang Weiyi, and He Qiufeng—stood out with their outstanding research proposals and successfully secured funding. We extend our warmest congratulations to them!

It is reported that the NSFC Youth Student Basic Research Project (Doctoral Student Program) was established in 2023 to support doctoral students in independently selecting research topics within the scope of NSFC funding and conducting basic research. The program aims to cultivate their ability to independently carry out scientific research, laying a solid foundation for their journey into the scientific community and providing high-quality talent reserves for building a high-level basic research team. The doctoral student project adopts a "recommendation + evaluation" system, involving multiple stages such as individual student applications, university selection and recommendation, NSFC-organized peer review, and panel review, ensuring the selection of the most outstanding projects for funding.
