On 18th September, China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) officially announced the "2023 China Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan High Starting Point New Journal Selected Projects", and Energy Reviews, an international journal led by Academician Xie Heping of Shenzhen University, was successfully selected.
The total number of selected projects is 50 nationwide. This is another leap and breakthrough after Energy Reviews was successfully selected as "Guangdong Province High Starting Point New English Journal Project" in 2022, which is a recognition of the level of journals at the national level.

The Action Plan for Excellence in Chinese Science and Technology Journals is jointly implemented by seven ministries and commissions, namely the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Press and Publication Administration, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, with the aim of promoting the high-quality development of China's scientific and technological journals, and servicing the construction of a scientific and technological power. The plan is aimed at building a support system for the national science and technology journal system, and is the most recognised support plan for science and technology journals in China.
Energy Reviews, founded by Academician Xie Heping, is an international journal hosted by Shenzhen University and distributed by Elsevier Publishing Group, which is an international, interdisciplinary, high-quality, open-access, comprehensive academic journal on energy. Currently, five issues of papers are online.

Energy Reviews is co-edited by Academician Xie Heping, the founding editor-in-chief, and co-editors-in-chief include Academician Derek Elsworth of the U.S. Academy of Engineering, Academicians He Yaling and Li Yongfang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Ni Meng of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
The journal is based on the national energy demand and development planning, with the aim of "focusing on the frontier and leading the trend! The journal covers six major areas: new theories, methods and technologies in energy research; cross-disciplinary (materials, physics, chemistry, biology, etc.) exploratory technologies in energy research; low-carbon utilisation of fossil energy and CCUS; advanced technologies in hydrogen energy, renewable energy and energy storage; exploration and application of new energy conversion methods; and modern information technology (artificial intelligence, big data) in the field of energy.
