Academician Xie Heping's team successfully held the 2024 Ministry of Education doctoral student talent reserve special meeting

On the morning of September 23rd, Academician Xie Heping's team successfully held a new student meeting for the 2024 Ministry of Education doctoral student talent storage project at the Institute of Deep Earth Science and Green Energy. Our institute's talent storage project cooperation supervisor and all new students attended the meeting.

Firstly, Academician Xie Heping delivered a speech, warmly welcoming the first batch of 25 doctoral freshmen who joined the team, and providing a detailed introduction to the background of the establishment of the talent reserve special project. In order to implement the national strategic deployment of urgently needed high-level talent cultivation in key fields, focus on the urgent demand for talents in major scientific and technological research fields, and cultivate urgently needed talents for the development of new quality productivity and the promotion of high-quality development, starting from 2024, the Ministry of Education specially approved the talent reserve special project for the doctoral student enrollment of Academician Xie Heping's team, and innovatively constructed a top-notch innovative talent cultivation model based on direct enrollment of undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, joint enrollment of master's and doctoral students, and application assessment system. The goal of this talent reserve project is to cultivate world-class talents and produce world-class achievements.

To achieve this goal, Academician Xie Heping pointed out that this special project will adopt a cross disciplinary, cross college, cross school, and dual mentor and multi mentor collaborative training mode. With the team's research fields of deep earth, deep sea, deep space, and green energy as the main line, an international high-level cross mentor team will be formed to serve the cultivation of first-class talents.

Academician Xie Heping emphasized that the field of study for doctoral students in this special project is more important than diligence, and they should adhere to the principle of "three qualities" in selecting topics, namely forward-looking, exploratory, and pioneering. Specifically, we should focus on the two cutting-edge fields of deep earth science and green energy, doing what others have not done and surpassing what others have done.

Subsequently, Academician Xie summarized and proposed three innovative training mechanisms for this doctoral program:

(一)Cross disciplinary innovation training mechanism ", supervisors and graduate students should actively carry out interdisciplinary innovation research, fully utilize the multidisciplinary background advantages of the special supervisor team, and carry out interdisciplinary innovation research;

(二)Cross disciplinary joint training mechanism "encourages students to boldly overcome professional background limitations, based on their own research interests, fully tap into their potential, and achieve" cross-border innovation ";

(三)The "undergraduate, master, and doctoral linkage training mechanism" will be highly linked to the 2024 Mathematics and Mechanics Innovation Class (also known as the "Academician Class", with Xie Heping serving as the class teacher) of our college, forming a new mechanism for integrated talent training of undergraduate, master, and doctoral students. An innovative training model will be established for undergraduate and doctoral students to progress and grow together one-on-one. Doctoral students will enter the laboratory in advance, leading undergraduate students to develop their interest and hobbies in conducting cutting-edge scientific research, and igniting their "flame" of exploring the unknown in science.

Finally, Academician Xie Heping put forward three requirements for all doctoral freshmen:

(一)To enter the role in advance, the research institute has excellent mentor resources, advanced equipment and instruments, and sufficient funding support. Each student should enter the research state as early as possible and focus on scientific research without distractions;

(二)Actively participate in various affairs of the research institute, and cooperate with collaborating supervisors to complete relevant scientific research projects. All experiences of participating in activities will be valuable opportunities for training;

(三)In addition to doing well in their own research work, we should actively encourage master's and undergraduate students to participate in scientific research and research projects, cultivate their interest in scientific exploration and good experimental skills, learn to be "mentors" and guide students, and lay a solid foundation for their future research careers.

During the communication session, Vice Dean Guo Jun of our college, as the head teacher of the 2024 doctoral program for talent storage, promised to do a good job in scientific research logistics support for all students. Whether it is coordinating scientific research equipment or solving problems faced in learning and life, he will do his best.

New student representatives Wang Hongtao and Liu Hanzhi subsequently delivered speeches. Based on their own experiences, they believe that the research platform of the research institute is rare, and various advanced equipment has enhanced their confidence in conducting scientific research. At the same time, the research institute has provided them with opportunities to exchange ideas with masters. They hope to fully utilize the advantages of the research institute, target national needs, focus on interdisciplinary studies, dare to innovate, and climb the technological peak.

This new student meet and greet event is specifically designed for the 2024 doctoral students majoring in talent storage. Through this activity, students have become more steadfast in their ideal beliefs in scientific research and strive to grow into new era technological talents in the fields of deep earth science and green energy.
