Major Introduction:

081400 Civil Engineering (English Program)

This fully English-taught program adopts a future-proof approach to education, research, and talent development at the master’s level. It provides students with advanced, robust knowledge across Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Engineering Management as well as Machine Learning through comprehensive core courses. Additionally, the program emphasizes a holistic academic research approach, supported by a dedicated team of professors who offer not only supervision, but mentorship. This international master’s program seeks to cultivate scientific and competitive spirit, innovative thinking, and problem-solving skills, equipping students with future-proof interdisciplinary expertise and a global outlook. Moreover, the program provides exceptional opportunities, including performance awards, international exchanges, and connections with leading engineering firms in the Greater Bay Area, with the aim of inspiring students to achieve beyond their most ambitious dreams. Thanks to the achievements of the Civil and Transportation Engineering College and its faculty, students can engage in well-funded, cutting-edge research projects and leverage the college’s state-of-the-art computational and experimental facilities. In the 2024 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, Shenzhen University’s Civil Engineering program ranked 34th. It also placed between 250-300 globally in both the QS World University Rankings by Subject and the Times Higher Education Rankings by Subject.

Training Objectives:

This program aims to develop world-class engineers and researchers who can thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The coursework equips students with strong advanced level knowledge in engineering, complemented by an interdisciplinary focus on programming, machine learning, advanced numerical methods, and renewable materials. While, the academic research mentored by professors cultivates out-of-the-box thinking, rigorous research methodology, strict adherence to academic ethics, and the upholding of high standards. By graduation, students will have a comprehensive professional foundation and in-depth specialized expertise in their chosen research areas. This preparation enables them to pursue flourishing academic careers with impactful publications or excel in the industry, ready to tackle global engineering consulting and contribute to monumental design projects of the future.

Training Features:

The program is designed to cultivate world-class talents capable of excelling in competitive, global environments, including the era of automation. It is delivered entirely in English to strengthen the students’ international standing while offering Chinese language learning opportunities to enhance their competitiveness in today’s multipolar global economy. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of disciplines, including geotechnical, structural, and transportation engineering, as well as material science and engineering management. It also integrates machine learning and digital technology education, ensuring that students can merge fundamental engineering knowledge with future-proof technologies. This balance ensures that graduates remain theoretically solid but quick to adapt. The program provides an international environment, with exchange opportunities to expand the students’ global perspectives and career development opportunities. Finally, the program strongly promotes a holistic research approach by cultivating strict scientific rigor, creative thinking, innovation, and all-round problem-solving skills.
