Introduction:

This presentation summarizes the research carried out by the project team on green and intelligent road infrastructure since 2017, including work that is currently underway.

The “green” aspect focuses on nature-based solutions, highlighting the symbiotic and harmonious development of road engineering infrastructure and the ecological environment. The “intelligent” aspect focuses on prefabricated roads, as well as intelligent and electrified roads that are compatible with prefabricated road systems.

This research has been supported by major research funding from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, and other agencies.

Dr. Yuhong Wang is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Kentucky in civil engineering. He successively worked at the Kentucky Transportation Research Centre as a research engineer, Lawrence Tech. University as a tenure-track assistant professor, and East Carolina University as a tenure-track assistant professor. He started his employment at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an assistant professor in 2010. He is the founder and director of the Research Centre for Nature-based Urban Infrastructure Solutions at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is also a founding and council member of the Asia Pacific Society for Emerging Transport (ASET), where he and other international scholars from renowned institutions such as Tsinghua University and the University of Singapore work together to promote the application of smart technologies in transport.

He has led and participated in more than 120 scientific research projects in the United States, Mainland China, and Hong Kong, including several major research projects related to smart transport infrastructure. He also published more than 150 papers, covering a broad spectrum of topics such as road engineering and smart transport. His research results have been used in engineering practices in various fields. He is a fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and a registered professional engineer in the United States. Currently, Dr. Wang’s main research projects and interests include smart transport infrastructure, nature-based infrastructure solutions, and road engineering, aiming to make our cities safer, cleaner, smarter, and more climate resilient.
