General Overview

Since receiving approval for preparatory development in April 2021, the Laboratory has focused on four major research areas concerning large-scale offshore infrastructure, including sea-crossing bridges, subsea tunnels, and offshore wind power facilities. These areas comprise intelligent sensing and safety early warning, performance evolution and enhancement, dynamic disaster mechanisms and resilience against hazards, and big-data processing and operation and maintenance management.

The Laboratory has largely established an internationally advanced research platform for offshore infrastructure that integrates interdisciplinary research, the development of emerging technologies, the industrialization of high-tech achievements, and the cultivation of high-level professionals.

Current Operations

The Laboratory is currently operating effectively, and several performance targets have already been achieved ahead of schedule and exceeded. In terms of talent development, it has established four research teams with well-balanced age and educational structures.

Regarding experimental facilities, the Laboratory has completed the construction of a dedicated laboratory covering 300 square metres. It will also complete, as scheduled, the development of marine-environment simulation facilities, including a wind–wave–current flume.

In terms of technology development, the Laboratory has established an integrated technological system with proprietary intellectual property rights. The system incorporates technologies such as fibre-optic sensing, microelectromechanical system sensors, BeiDou satellite positioning, and structural modal parameter identification.

Achievements

The Laboratory has published more than 100 papers indexed by the Science Citation Index and received ten provincial- and ministerial-level science and technology awards. It has undertaken more than 20 research projects funded at the national, provincial, ministerial, and municipal levels.

The Laboratory has applied for ten software copyrights and more than 20 invention and utility model patents. It has trained over 20 postgraduate students and secured cumulative research funding exceeding RMB 30 million. Five major research achievements have also been successfully commercialized and transferred into industrial applications.
