On 23 September 2022, the team from Shenzhen University and Sichuan University led by academician Xie Heping of our institute independently devel-oped a successful sea trial of deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate) insulation and pressure-holding sampling equipment, which is the first time in the internation-al arena to obtain in-situ fidelity samples of deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate) with insulation and pressure-holding. The relevant research progress and resul-ts have been reported by CCTV news channel for the first time.

Based on the national major development strategy of "deep earth, deep sp-ace and deep sea", Xie Heping's team, facing the major needs of Chinese deep sea energy resources development, relying on the national major scientific rese-arch instrument development project "deep rock in-situ fidelity core and fidelity test analysis system", successfully developed the deep sea sediment ( gas hydrate) insulation and pressure preservation sampler independently. On 23 September 2022, the deep-sea sediment (natural gas hydrate) insulation and pressure-holding sampler was mounted on the 4500m class manned submersible "Deep Sea Warrior" under the "Shared Voyage of Deep Sea Abyss Scientific Research and Equipment Testing" organised by the Deep Sea Technology Innovation Centre of Hainan Province. The deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate) sample was obtained at an in-situ pressure of 13.8MPa and a temperature of 6.51℃, breaking through the technical difficulties of deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate) pressure-holding sampling and filling the gap between the deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate) and the deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate). It has filled the gap of deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate) thermal insulation sampling technology in the world, and achieved the zero breakthrough in obtaining global thermal insulation and pressure-holding sediment (gas hydrate) samples.

Xie Heping is the Director of the Institute of Deep Earth Science and Green Energy, School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, Shenzhen University, and his team has long been Dedicated to the deep in-situ fidelity coring and fidelity testing technology and equipment research. Deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate) coring is easily affected by the complex environment of the deep sea and is prone to phase change after temperature and pressure changes. The team of academician Xie Heping focused on the bottleneck of deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate) fidelity coring technology and independently developed Chinese first set of deep-sea sediment (gas hydrate) insulation and pressure sampling, in-situ fidelity displacement and in-situ fidelity testing equipment with independent intellectual property rights, forming a new principle technology system of deep-sea material resource fidelity exploration and realizing the localization and autonomy of deep-sea prospecting technology and equipment.
The successful in-situ fidelity sampling of deep-sea sediments (gas hydrate) in China marks the world's leading level of insulation and pressure-holding coring technology, which provides technical equipment support for the exploration and development of deep-sea resources and marine science exploration in China, and is of great strategic significance for promoting the development of gas hydrate development and utilization technology in China.
