Department of Transportation Engineering is organized aroundthree principleresearch areas, i.e. intelligent transportation, transportation planning and logistics engineering, advancing the field of urban smart transportation & safety maintenance, traffic big data,multi-modal transport, management of rail system (including railway, high-speed railway, intercity railway, and city rail system), and logistics information system. At present, there are 15 faculty members in the department, including 1 Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 3 professors, 5 associate professors and 7 assistant professors.
Supported by the location advantage of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the Department of Transportation Engineering has been developing rapidly over the recent years. It reformed the curriculum group of transportation engineering for the needs of integrated transportation construction of Shenzhen and GBA, establishing its prestige and characteristic specialty in the industry. In addition, the Department has cultivated a number of multi-disciplinary transportation talents with broad vision, enterprising spirit, strong innovation and professional skills, who have been making achievements in various government agencies and companies related to transportation planning, construction, operation, urban planning, municipal design, and transportation consulting. Department of Transportation Engineering has the ability to solve transportation-relevanttheoretical problems, while establishing long-term partnership with local enterprise to solve their real-world traffic problems. In the past five years, the Department has hosted and completed more than 50 national scientific research projects including the National Key Research and Development Project, National Natural Science Foundation of China as well as many provincial research projects. The Department has also published many high-level academic papersin leading journals that indexed in SCI, EI and ISTP database.
With the spirit of innovation andinterdisciplinary nature, the Department is striving to build a top-ranked academic program for transportation engineering education. It has set up the `Urban Smart Transportation School-Enterprise Collaborative Experimental Class’ to develop a new mode to inspire, nurture, and produce the next generation of transportation talents through high-quality courses and practical engineering projects.
