Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), established in 1908, is situated in Melbourne, the cultural centre of Australia and one of the four liveable cities around the world. With five campuses and more than 30,000 students, SUT has more than 200 awarding units for bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree. With its international students from over 70 countries around the world, the university is known as a famous comprehensive public university in Australia. Renowned as a university with first-class academic reputation, SUT ranks among the top 3% of universities around the world. In the 2019 QS World University Ranking, SUT ranked the 367th in the world.
Shenzhen University (SZU) has established a cooperative partnership with SUT in the aspects of teaching, scientific research, and talents cultivation. Targeting at the direction of majors including civil engineering and construction management, SZU has signed cooperation agreements with SUT on the program of joint training project for offshore doctoral students, which is currently enrolling candidates. The research directions for the Joint Training Doctoral Program include:
Urban intelligent construction and management
Intelligent construction technology based on BIM
Sustainable construction and management
Smart building energy management and energy saving technology
Civil engineering
Areas of Cooperation
Carry out various joint research programs.
Co-organize academic and scientific activities (courses, conferences, seminars, symposiums, and lectures, etc.).
Exchange academic personnel for teaching or research activities.
Exchange students (PhD/MSC) take part in study or research projects.
To exchange publications and other scientific information that will benefit both parties.
Information on the Joint Training Doctoral Programs
1.The tuition standard, training methods and award system of the program.
1) Full or partial remission of doctoral tuition fees.
2) The quota of the project is 10 annually.
3) The length of schooling for the full-time doctoral students is 3-4 years.
4) Students attending this program will be tutored by a mentor from SUT and a mentor from SZU jointly. The academic research will be conducted in SZU or SUT according to the actual needs of the program, and the doctoral degree of SUT will be obtained after graduation.
5) Students participating in the overseas doctoral program must attend at least one seminar held by SUT to "report their ongoing research" and interact directly with the SUT mentor. Travel and accommodation expenses incurred during the period shall be borne by students themselves.
6) Students' graduation thesis must be written in English. Under special circumstances, students may apply to the Higher Degrees Research Council for submission of papers in languages other than English, if the research itself is necessary. In this case, the paper must include a summary in English and no more than 12,000 words. If the paper is written in Chinese and the summary is in English, the certificate of degree will indicate that the language of instruction and the language of writing is Chinese.
7) Scholarship system: Regular doctoral fellowships will be provided by SZU during the period of studying in SZU. During the period of studying in SUT, the tuition fees will be waived, and other expenses will be covered by the research funding supported by China Scholarship Council (CSC) applied by students or at their own expense.
8) Application requirements:
i. The score of IELTS must be at least 6.0 (academic category), with a minimum score of 6 on each single subject, or the score obtained from TOEFL shall be 75, with a minimum score of 17 on each single subject. Examination results must be obtained within 24 months of the date of application.
ii. The students must have Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in the major of civil engineering or construction management.
