From October 31 to November 2, the Second Symposium on Civil Engineering Discipline Development and Engineering Technology Application was held in Chongqing. Hosted by the China Construction Education Association, the conference centered on the theme “AI Empowering Civil Engineering Discipline Development and Engineering Technology Application.” It brought together experts and scholars from multiple universities and enterprises across China's civil engineering sector to jointly explore industry innovation and talent cultivation pathways. Three faculty members from our college—Yang Lei, Long Xu, and Zhao Debo—attended the conference.

The conference featured keynote presentations, academic exchanges, and practical case studies, fostering in-depth discussions on interdisciplinary talent development models for civil engineering under digital intelligence and the application of AI technologies in both education and engineering practice. During the event, Professor Yang Lei chaired the academic exchange session, while Professor Zhao Debo delivered a presentation titled “Exploring Teaching Reform in Machine Learning and Programming Courses through Integrated Smart Construction Project Development.” Drawing on the college's teaching reform practices, Professor Zhao elaborated on the reform approach of integrating smart construction micro-project development into the curriculum system. He proposed establishing a three-dimensional teaching model centered on practical engineering needs, combining “theoretical instruction + project practice + AI tool application,” thereby offering new insights for reforming programming and machine learning courses in civil engineering disciplines.
