International Forum on Digital and Intelligent Geotechnical Engineering (Shenzhen University - Budapest University of Technology and Economics) Successfully Held

On the afternoon of 24 January 2026, the Shenzhen University-Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) Geotechnical Forum was successfully held in Room 1007, Zhi Li Building, Yuehai Campus (South Area). Visiting scholars from Budapest University of Technology and Economics included Associate Professor András Mahler, Associate Professor Janos Szendefy, Associate Professor Gyula Bögöly, Associate Professor Péter Görög, and Associate Professor Zsombor Illés, who engaged in academic exchanges with our institute. In attendance were over twenty faculty members and students, including Academician Chen Xiangsheng, Dean of our School and Director of the Future Underground City Research Institute; Associate Professor Zou Liang, Deputy Dean of the School; Professor Su Dong, Deputy Director of the Research Institute; alongside Professors Daniel Dias, Fei Jianbo, and Chen Wenbo. The meeting was chaired by Assistant Professor Kato Bence.

In accordance with the forum agenda, Associate Professor Janos Szendefy delivered an academic presentation entitled Recent Geotechnical Researches at BME (Budapest University of Technology and Economics). Associate Professor Gyula Bögöly presented an academic report titled Experimental and Numerical Studies on Aggregates, Masonry Structures, Tunnels and Rock Slopes. Tunnels and Rock Slopes", Associate Professor Péter Görög delivered an academic presentation entitled "Comprehensive Engineering Geological Assessment from Rock Mechanical Testing to LiDAR-Based Debris Flow Hazard Analysis", and Associate Professor Zsombor Illés presented an academic report titled The effect of climate change on flood protection embankments. Survey and field measurements. Vice-Dean András Mahler introduced the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and delivered an academic presentation entitled Geotechnical Modelling of Road Structures. During the forum's exchange session, participants engaged in vigorous discussions on cutting-edge topics including the cyclic load performance of foam glass aggregates, application scenarios for masonry arch reinforcement, scale effects in small-scale models, and quantitative data on pavement deformation.

Following the technical exchange session, Professor Fei Jianbo briefed the visiting delegation on the fundamental circumstances of Shenzhen University and its School of Civil and Transportation Engineering. Academician Chen Xiangsheng extended a warm welcome to the professors from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, calling for enhanced scientific research collaboration and mutual advancement in disciplinary innovation. After the meeting, both parties exchanged gifts to symbolise the academic friendship between the two institutions.
