On the morning of March 15, 2026, our institute held a progress meeting for the project titled “Specialized Study on Underground Engineering Projects Affecting Railways in the T2 Terminal Area Crossing Existing Rail Transit Stations.” Academician Chen Xiangsheng, Dean of the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering and the Institute of Future Underground Cities at Shenzhen University, along with Professor Bao Xiaohua (Vice Dean of the School and the Institute), Professor Su Dong (Vice Dean of the Institute), Professor Wang Shuying, Senior Lecturer Li Dong, and relevant faculty members attended the meeting, which was conducted in a hybrid online and offline format.

This meeting was chaired by Professor Su Dong, Vice Dean of our institute. Professor Su Dong began by outlining the task assignments, organizational structure, on-site management, and future direction for the thematic research projects. Based on the characteristics of the project and the current needs for consulting services, four working groups are proposed to be established: the Station Cluster Renovation Thematic Research Working Group (Group Leader: Fu Yanbin; Deputy Group Leader: Chen Xianchuan), the Pile Foundation Engineering Research Working Group (Leader: Bao Xiaohua; Deputy Leader: Ye Zikun), the Excavation Cluster Engineering Research Working Group (Leader: Su Dong; Deputy Leader: Li Qiang), and the Construction Control and Digitalization Research Working Group (Leader: Hong Chengyu; Deputy Leaders: Tan Yi, Chen Weibin). These four groups will carry out consulting services centered on 13 main tasks and 39 sub-tasks.

At the meeting, participants engaged in lively discussions on topics such as pile foundation engineering, the development of digital platforms, flood risks during the rainy season, and drainage issues.

Academician Chen Xiangsheng, President of our institute, attended the entire meeting and provided important guidance. He emphasized that consulting work must be grounded in the construction site and serve the client, establishing a new paradigm for consulting services and project management through “on-call” responsiveness and the wisdom of “cultural integration” in communication. Academician Chen Xiangsheng pointed out that the division of labor is not merely a technical arrangement but should also reflect the logic of management and communication. Each team must establish a clear system of responsibilities to ensure that clients can quickly identify the appropriate contact person, thereby achieving “tasks assigned to teams, responsibilities assigned to individuals, and direct communication.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, Academician Chen Xiangsheng encouraged all members to cherish this rare opportunity for engineering practice. He urged them to embrace a sense of responsibility embodied by the motto, “Success need not be attributed to me, but I must be part of it,” to serve wholeheartedly, take the initiative, grow through service, and improve through communication. He emphasized that the underground engineering project crossing the existing rail transit station cluster in the Terminal 2 area of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport is a key project for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and also represents a significant opportunity for our university to contribute to major local construction projects and demonstrate our research capabilities. Through this project, the team must not only deliver high-quality consulting outcomes but also cultivate a cohort of multidisciplinary professionals who understand engineering, excel in communication, and are capable of innovation, thereby contributing Shenzhen University’s wisdom and strength to the university’s “Double First-Class” initiative and the urban development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

This progress meeting helped build consensus within the team and charted a clear course for the project’s next steps. In accordance with the meeting’s directives, each working group will take swift action to refine and implement the plans, dedicating themselves with enthusiasm and a pragmatic approach to ensuring the high-quality construction of the railway-related underground works in the Shenzhen Airport Terminal 2 area.
