On May 16, 2025, the Annual Conference of the Engineering Education Committee of the Chinese Society of Higher Education (CSHE) and the Academic Activity of “Artificial Intelligence-Driven Engineering Education Transformation and Engineering Science and Technology Innovation in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao” were grandly opened in Shenzhen. The conference was organized by the Engineering Education Committee of the Chinese Society of Higher Education and hosted by Shenzhen University. About 500 leaders and experts from the Ministry of Education, Chinese Society of Higher Education, domestic high-level universities and engineering technology enterprises attended the event. The conference focused on the topics of artificial intelligence technology empowering education and teaching, engineering education reform and innovation, and the opportunities and challenges of engineering science and technology innovation in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area, and other topics were discussed in depth.

Prof. Chen Xiangsheng, President of the College and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was invited to attend the conference and delivered a keynote report entitled “Reflections on Future Talent Cultivation Methods - Exploration of Teaching and Learning in Civil Engineering Disciplines”. In the report, Prof. Chen Xiangsheng systematically elaborated the innovative concepts and practical paths of our college in the reform of talent cultivation in the new era, focusing on the breakthroughs achieved by the college in undergraduate talent cultivation in recent years. Starting from the two dimensions of “Digital Intelligence Transformation” and “New Engineering Construction”, the report explained in detail the “Digital Intelligence + Big Civil Engineering” cross-fertilization cultivation system constructed by the college, as well as the first “Situationalized Teaching Paradigm”.
Academician Chen Xiangsheng especially shared his experience in the construction of the International Engineering Innovation Class, in which he personally served as the class director, and actively explored the mode of cultivating outstanding innovative talents by “teaching according to the person, according to the need, and according to the time”, “letting the engineering go out of books and letting the knowledge be integrated into the practice”, and putting the theoretical and practical learning into the major projects. The report has triggered a great deal of interest among the participants in the conference. The report triggered a warm reaction among the participants.

Nearly 20 faculty members, including Prof. Yang Lei, Vice President of the School, Prof. Sun Xiaohui, Assistant President of the School, and Associate Prof. Chen Xianchuan, Associate Dean of the Department of Civil Engineering, attended the conference. During the meeting, the teachers actively participated in the discussion and exchange of various topics, and deeply learned the cutting-edge research results and practical experience of experts and scholars from sister institutions and enterprises in the change of engineering education driven by artificial intelligence as well as the innovation of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in engineering science and technology. In the future, our institute will actively explore new paths of teaching reform, strengthen cooperation with universities and enterprises in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and contribute to the cultivation of engineering and technology talents adapted to the needs of the new era.
