Introduction | This program is headed by Professor Chen Xiangsheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, who serves as the class advisor. Closely aligned with the demand for international transformation in civil engineering, it has established a training system built on three pillars: international standards, language competence, and innovative practice. The program cultivates interdisciplinary engineering talent dedicated to high-quality infrastructure development in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. By using internationally leading major projects as real-world classrooms and leveraging digital, intelligent, scenario-based teaching materials, the program brings engineering out of textbooks and integrates knowledge into practice. This approach fosters in students an engineering mindset of "asking questions and proactively seeking solutions." It is committed to nurturing outstanding students who possess a strong sense of national commitment, a deep sense of responsibility, leadership potential, and the aspiration for self-transcendence. A dual-mentorship model—academic mentors paired with corporate mentors—provides full-process guidance throughout students' studies. In the upper years of undergraduate study, a "two-to-one" model is implemented, pairing each student with one on-campus mentor and one off-campus mentor for personalized nurturing. Combined with a "one student, one plan" approach, the program teaches according to each student's aptitude, helping every individual reach their full potential. Classroom hours are deliberately reduced to free up time for students to engage deeply in research, engineering practice, and study tours. Through Party and Youth League co-building and a quasi-residential college system, the program creates a three-dimensional education framework encompassing strategic vision, disciplinary cognition, and practice orientation. Led by 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 2 academicians of foreign engineering academies, together with a faculty of over 40 PhD and 23 national-level talents, the program provides robust support for students' all-round growth. Specialized courses are taught bilingually, supplemented by professional English training. Through a "Hong Kong/Macao + international" dual-channel exchange framework, the program has built a three-level training system comprising short-term visiting study, joint workshops, and international competitions. This ensures 100% of students have access to opportunities for international cooperation and exchange, internships, research, competitions, and study visits. Relying on the National Key Laboratory of Intelligent Construction and Maintenance for Geotechnical and Tunnel Engineering in Extreme Environments and university-enterprise bases, the program focuses on digital and intelligent infrastructure construction and provides an innovation and practice platform that takes ideas from concept to implementation. A dual-track evaluation system combining process assessment with personalized cultivation, tiered scholarships, and international competition funding operate in parallel to support student development. |
