From December 12 to 19, 2019, seven students of our college (five undergraduates and two postgraduates), together with their supervising teacher Ms. Fan Yun, went to Japan for a seven-day "Sakura Science Program."

The "Sakura Science Program" is an international exchange initiative fully funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), under which young people from Asia make short-term visits to Japanese schools, research institutes and enterprises, and engage in comprehensive science-and-technology exchanges with Japanese young people as well as scientists and researchers at the forefront of various fields. Each year the program invites around 1,500 young students from China to Japan for short-term science-and-technology exchanges and visits. Those invited include high-school students, university students, postgraduates, as well as postdoctoral researchers and researchers under the age of 40.

This activity was jointly applied for by our college and the University of Science and Technology of China, while the arrangement and implementation of the program on the Japanese side was undertaken by the Tokyo Institute of Technology. During the one-week activity, the Chinese students and teachers carried out in-depth study and exchanges on advanced manufacturing at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan, visited the headquarters of SEIKO and EPSON, advanced manufacturing enterprises such as a Japan Airlines aircraft maintenance plant, as well as representative buildings in Tokyo and the Mount Fuji World Heritage site.

This successful visit to Japan made the students realize that China and Japan have enormous room for mutual cooperation and mutual learning. Contemporary young university students are willing to serve as a bridge of China–Japan friendship and to contribute their own strength to building a modern and strong country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful.
