In late October 2024, a four-member delegation led by Executive Dean of our college, Professor LONG Wujian, together with Assistant to the Dean Professor MEI Liu, full-time faculty member Professor WANG Xianfeng, and foreign affairs secretary WANG Xingjun, visited Waseda University, Tohoku University, Tohoku Institute of Technology, Nagoya Institute of Technology, Meijo University and Kyoto University in Japan for visits and academic exchanges. The delegation signed memorandums of cooperation with Waseda University, Tohoku Institute of Technology and Nagoya Institute of Technology, and reached preliminary cooperation intentions with Tohoku University, Meijo University and Kyoto University.
Our college has extensive cooperation with Professor Akiyama Mitsuyoshi of Waseda University, Japan, on issues such as improving the resilience of coastal cities and their bridge networks against compound disasters. Building on the existing research cooperation, our college and the Graduate School of Creative Science and Engineering of Waseda University will carry out further cooperation in talent cultivation, including student exchanges. At the signing ceremony, the two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation. Professor Akiyama Mitsuyoshi, Director of the Structural Laboratory of the Graduate School of Creative Science and Engineering of Waseda University, Associate Professor Lim Sopokhem, and Assistant Professor JIA Siyi attended the meeting. Afterwards, the delegation visited the civil structure, materials and intelligent information laboratories of Waseda University.

Our college has already established close cooperative relations with Tohoku Institute of Technology in Japan in the fields of building seismic resistance, vibration mitigation and structural health monitoring. This visit was a return visit following the visit of Professor XUE Songtao, a foreign academician of the Engineering Academy of Japan, to Shenzhen University. Taking this opportunity, our college signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Engineering of Tohoku Institute of Technology, and exchanged views with President of Tohoku Institute of Technology Professor WATANABE Hirofumi, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Professor ISHII Satoshi, and Professor XUE Songtao, discussing the possibility of jointly applying for the China–Japan science and technology exchange program, the "Sakura Science Program," in order to further enrich the student exchange model between the two sides. Afterwards, the delegation conducted academic exchanges with Professor XUE Songtao and visited the Structural Vibration Control and Health Monitoring Laboratory of Tohoku Institute of Technology.

Our college has a close cooperative relationship with Nagoya Institute of Technology in Japan, and the two sides have carried out relatively in-depth cooperation on the National Key R&D Program intergovernmental project "Preparation of Self-Adaptive Intelligent Responsive Building Materials and Research on Their Application Technology in Coastal Corrosive Environments." This visit was a return visit following the visit of President OBATA Makoto and his delegation to Shenzhen University. Taking this opportunity, our college signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Graduate School of Engineering of Nagoya Institute of Technology. In addition, the four-member delegation led by Executive Dean LONG Wujian made an on-site inspection of the world's first seismic-isolation experimental building equipped with seismic isolation devices at the Aobayama Campus of Tohoku University.

Meijo University is the largest comprehensive university in central Japan, and three Nobel laureates have worked there. During this visit to Meijo University, the delegation exchanged views with Professor GE Hanbin, a foreign academician of the Engineering Academy of Japan, on cooperation in the field of disaster prevention and mitigation, and planned to strengthen bilateral cooperation in personnel exchange and scientific research with the help of JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) projects.

Kyoto University is a top-class university under the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Top Global University Project (Type A) and enjoys a high reputation worldwide; more than ten Nobel laureates have worked there. During this visit, the delegation made contact with Associate Professor ZHANG Jingyao of building structure at the university, exchanged views on potential research directions in the field of concrete materials and structures, and planned to carry out formal scientific research cooperation and personnel exchanges in the future.

The year 2024 is the inaugural year of our college's internationalization. The college has put forward the "one core, four dimensions" internationalization strategy: taking the cultivation of high-level talents with an international perspective as the core ("one core"), and taking internationalized program development, internationalized faculty development, internationalized research cooperation and internationalized talent exchange as the main pillars ("four dimensions"). This visit is a good start for implementing the college's internationalization strategy, further broadening our college's cooperation and exchanges with internationally renowned universities, and laying a solid foundation for the internationalization of our college's scientific research cooperation, talent exchange and academic reputation.
