In accordance with the latest version of the Measures of Shenzhen University for the Administration of Student Overseas Exchange and Study Scholarships (Revised) (approved at the President's Office Meeting on July 4, 2022), the "Prestigious University Further Study Scholarship" established by our university is used to support graduating students to pursue doctoral degrees at top universities and research institutes abroad (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). The Prestigious University Further Study Scholarship is funded by donations to the Shenzhen University Talent Fund, with a funding standard of RMB 100,000 per person, and in principle no more than 5 people university-wide each year. The specific application methods and funding management shall be carried out in accordance with the Implementation Measures of the Shenzhen University Overseas Study Fund (Trial).

I. Eligible Applicants

Graduating students of the university who have obtained a doctoral admission notice from an overseas institution ranked in the top 20 of any of the 2023 world university rankings (referring to the QS World University Rankings, THE Times Higher Education World University Rankings, US News Best Global Universities Rankings and the ARWU ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities, the same below), or from an overseas institution ranked in the top 10 of the ARWU subject rankings, and who confirm that they will enroll this year.

II. Scholarship Standards and Amounts

1. No more than 5 outstanding candidates are selected from among doctoral degree applicants and funded at the standard of RMB 100,000 per person;

Students who have already obtained state-sponsored study-abroad qualification from the China Scholarship Council will not be repeatedly funded.

Students who have already received funding from the Shenzhen Universiade Study Fund may apply for the Shenzhen University Overseas Study Fund; if selected, the honors may be held concurrently, and the funding is disbursed based on the difference between the two.

III. Scholarship Application Requirements

(1) Love the socialist motherland, support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and have a sense of responsibility to serve the country, society and the people, as well as a correct world outlook, outlook on life and values;

(2) Be physically and mentally healthy, have a good professional foundation and development potential, and have a sense of purpose and mission to return to serve national construction after completing studies;

(3) Outstanding academic performance and good overall performance, with no record of illegal or disciplinary violations during the school years; and meeting at least one of the following requirements: having won discipline competition awards at the provincial level or above, or first-class awards or above in extracurricular academic science-and-technology competitions; national second-class scholarships or above, or university-level outstanding graduates; having participated in college research projects and achieved remarkable results in academic research, with papers published in core journals as first author or second author (the supervising teacher must be the first author), or having applied for national patents, etc.;

(4) By autumn 2023, the applicant has been registered for a doctoral program, or has proof confirming enrollment, at an overseas institution ranked in the latest top 20 of any of the 2023 world university rankings (referring to the QS World University Rankings, THE Times Higher Education World University Rankings, US News Best Global Universities Rankings and the ARWU ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities, the same below), or at an overseas institution ranked in the top 10 of the ARWU subject rankings.

Applicants whose doctoral institution and discipline do not fall within the above ranking scope, but whose supervisor is a Nobel laureate or an academician of a developed country, are also eligible to apply.

Priority is given to funding students in the fields of applied basic research, major national science and technology projects, key common technologies, frontier-leading technologies, modern engineering technologies and disruptive technological innovation; students in disciplines related to Shenzhen's key pillar industries, strategic emerging industries and future industries; and students in the characteristic and advantageous disciplines that Shenzhen University focuses on supporting. Fund donors may put forward relevant requirements or suggestions on the funded disciplines.

IV. Application Period:

September 1 to October 10, 2023.

V. Application Process

1. Apply online within the application period; directly log in to https://szupu.szu.edu.cn/fa/project/84 and select "2023 Prestigious University Further Study Scholarship Application," click "Submit Application" on the right (the program application platform does not support IE browser; please use the latest version of Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari), and fill in the application online.

2. Application materials (please scan and upload color attachments when applying):

1) Fill in the application form online;

2) Attach scanned copies of the student card of the overseas university attended (or proof of registration/payment) and the admission notice;

3) Attach other proof of excellence (published papers, award certificates at university level or above, etc.).

VI. Selection

1. After the registration deadline, the expert review panel will conduct an online video defense review. The review criteria will be based on the application requirements, the number of applicants and the total amount funded by the university.

2. After confirmation by the Shenzhen University Education Development Foundation and the fund donors, the list of students to be awarded the scholarship will be publicly announced via the campus official notice.

3. In September 2024, the overseas study summaries, transcripts (or graduation certificates, published papers) submitted by the award-winning students will be reviewed, and the scholarship will be disbursed to those who qualify.

During their overseas study period, students shall abide by the laws and regulations of the host country (region) and the relevant provisions of the Shenzhen University Overseas Study Fund Scholarship Commitment Letter. In case of violation, the university reserves the right to take legal measures to recover the scholarship and certificate.
