In accordance with the Measures of Shenzhen University for the Administration of Student Overseas Exchange and Study Scholarships (Trial), the university has established the Short-term Academic Exchange Scholarship. This scholarship is used to support students going abroad (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) to participate in high-level academic conferences, discipline competitions and other academic exchange activities, with the aim of fostering a vibrant academic and cultural atmosphere and improving students' international perspectives and innovative abilities. The matters concerning the selection for the 2019 Short-term Academic Exchange Scholarship are hereby notified as follows:
I. Application Requirements:
(1) Academic Conference Category
The theme of the high-level academic conference attended is related to the applicant's major and the research content of the paper; the applicant is the first author of the paper and the paper has been accepted by the conference; or the applicant's supervisor is the first author and the applicant is the second author or corresponding author, and the applicant presented the paper at the conference. The applicant has personally paid the conference expenses and has not received funding from the university or other institutions/programs.
(2) Discipline Competition Category
The high-level discipline competition attended shall be an internationally influential international competition organized by UNESCO or other international academic organizations, as specifically determined by the list of competitions held abroad (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) published by the Academic Affairs Office and the Graduate School in the current year's innovation competition award measures; whether participating individually or as a team, funding is applied for on an individual basis. The applicant has personally paid the competition expenses and, apart from project-based funding for the discipline competition, has not received funding from the university or other institutions/programs.
(3) Winter/Summer Vacation Short-term Credit Programs
Participation in short-term credit or professional course study (excluding language and culture courses) or practical programs at prestigious universities (QS World University Rankings top 100) designated by the university (published via official notice), with an average GPA of 3.5 or above at SZU (no failed courses; for the first batch of provincial-level first-class program development sites in Guangdong Province — Finance, English, Advertising, Business Administration, Materials Science and Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Clinical Medicine — and for those with other outstanding performance, the average GPA may be appropriately lowered to 3.0), and who perform especially outstandingly in at least one of the following aspects of moral conduct, academic research, discipline competition or social practice:
(1) Outstanding overall performance, and recipient of the "Liyuan Star" award, a national second-class scholarship or above, or a social first-class scholarship.
(2) Remarkable achievements in academic research, with papers published as first author or second author (the supervising teacher must be the first author) fully indexed by SCI, EI, ISTP or SSCI, or academic monographs published as first or second author (subject to expert appraisal).
(3) Remarkable achievements in discipline competitions, with second-class awards or above in international and national professional discipline competitions and extracurricular academic science-and-technology competitions, or first-class awards or above in relevant provincial-level competitions.
(4) Remarkable achievements in social practice activities, having won provincial-level or above honorary titles of Advanced Individual or Outstanding Team in social practice.
(5) Outstanding performance in the building of socialist spiritual civilization, with practical actions of righteous courage, helping others, dedication and love, serving society and self-reliance, producing a relatively large impact at the university and in the local area and helping to establish good social conduct.
Number of places for this category: 25. Applicants must not have received similar scholarships from the university or other funding.
II. Award Standards
Category A: funding for activities outside the Asian region — RMB 8,000 per person.
Category B: funding for activities within the Asian region (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) — RMB 4,000 per person.
Category C: funding for activities within Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan — RMB 2,000 per person.
III. Application Procedures
Log in to https://szupu.szu.edu.cn/fa, select the "2019 Shenzhen University Short-term International Academic Exchange Scholarship Program," fill in the Application Form for the Shenzhen University Short-term International Academic Exchange Scholarship online (the program application platform does not support IE browser; please use the latest version of Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari), print the form after submitting the application, and submit it together with the following paper materials to Room 321 of the Administration Building.
Materials to submit (electronic attachments and paper copies must both be uploaded/submitted; copies are acceptable):
Conference/competition category:
(1) An introduction to the conference or competition (conference brochure or poster);
(2) Formal letter of invitation;
(3) Copy of the submitted paper or related materials;
(4) Schedule (applicants who are able may attach digital photos of the conference/competition);
(5) Summary of participation in the international academic conference/competition.
Winter/summer short-term credit program:
(1) Shenzhen University transcript and award certificates (if any);
(2) Program letter of invitation;
(3) Course completion certificate (program transcript and program certificate);
(4) A 1,000–2,000-word reflection report on the program (including reasons for application).
IV. Application Time and Other Matters
Projects funded in 2019 must all occur within the year, based on the 2019 calendar year.
Application deadline: December 20, 2019.
Special reminder: Students who need to submit supplementary materials are requested to submit them as soon as possible. Students submitting materials on the 20th must ensure their materials are complete; after the deadline, no further materials can be submitted, and incomplete materials will not be reviewed.
V. Review Measures
(1) The International Exchange and Cooperation Office organizes personnel to form a scholarship review committee;
(2) For the academic conference and discipline competition categories, the review panel reviews and confirms applicants' materials according to the Measures of Shenzhen University for the Administration of Student Overseas Exchange Scholarships (Trial) to determine the award list; for winter/summer short-term credit programs, the review panel conducts comprehensive review based on the applicants' academic performance, research ability, expected goals for studying abroad, innovative practice and public-welfare activities;
(3) The final result is decided by vote of the review expert panel.
VI. Scholarship Approval and Disbursement Process
After the registration deadline, the sorting of materials and the review by the internationalization expert review panel will take 10–15 working days.
After the award list determined by the review committee is publicly announced on campus for 3 working days, the International Exchange and Cooperation Office reports the review results to the university leaders for approval. Afterwards, an official notice will inform awardees to sign for and collect the scholarship and certificate.
The scholarship is disbursed after the financial approval procedures are completed.
VII. The right to interpret these measures rests with the International Exchange and Cooperation Office.
