Abstract:
In a maintenance cycle, which is composed of inspections, evaluations, countermeasures and records, especially, evaluation methods for verifying structural performances have not been sufficiently developed well. In this lecture, the latest research activities on performances of damaged structures are introduced. In particular, effects of rebar corrosion in concrete on the bond property and load carrying capacities, damage mechanisms of expansive reactions of concrete and their effects on mechanical behaviors, and safety assessments of real long span bridges with excessive deformations are the main topics. In each research activity, a combination of experiments, numerical analyses,
About the speaker:
Dr. Koji MATSUMOTO is an Associate Professor in the Division of Engineering and Policy for Sustainable Environment, Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University. He obtained his BE, ME and PhD from Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University. His research focuses on construction materials, structural concrete, nonlinear analysis and structural intervention. Dr. K.Matsumoto's research team aims to solve social issues in the life-cycle of infrastructures (design, execution and maintenance) by using various technologies such as experiments, numerical analyses, remote sensing, etc. in the wide range from the material to the structural scale. Considering the aging problem of infrastructure in Japan and our role in the global society, his team try to implement the developed technologies and obtained knowledge to not only Japan but also other countries.
